A Lion, A Zebra, And A Case Of Mistaken Identity

This is the banquet hall at the  Peppermill Casino in Reno, Nevada where the  January 2013  Safari Club International Convention   was about to host their evening event  featuring guest speaker, former vice president Dick Cheney.      Robert  had painted the background set  that included two free standing cut out  zebras and several zebras painted on the mural.   During the  event a  lion was brought on stage by its handlers and when it saw the zebras,   well.... the pictures tell the rest of the story.

  1. Wow, Diane! Those are brave handlers! It's amazing how even in captivity the lions revert to behavior consistent with being in their natural habitat! The expression on the lions face in the last picture is pretty impressive! Good work, Robert! Maybe almost TOO good! :)

  2. Hey Diane, what if you were in the crowd wearing a zebra print? That would be REALLY bad!

  3. I say, Robert's artwork must be extra excellent to fool a lion. Goes to show, too, ya just can't take the wild out of a lion. Eek. The lion's expression in the last photo is pretty good : 0 And I've got to say, Robert's mural is beautiful!! Wow!!

  4. Diane,
I clicked on Robert's pic and viewed his work...amazing! I had a friend who could paint, she knew I loved sunsets and painted me one; it was very nice, but nothing like Robert's work. He is truly gifted by God. Love the lion pics, I almost feel sorry for him!

  5. Oh my goodness, Diane! How crazy is that?! When a lion thinks Robert's zebras are real, it's proof that his work is really excellent!
