In 1999 Wycliffe Bible Translators set a very ambitious goal to see the Scriptures translated into every known language by 2025 - which would truly have taken a miracle. But they have made an incredible amount of headway today and it looks like they just may do it!
I remember growing up in Colombia among the Guajira Indians, a couple from Wycliffe living among the same Indians and translating the NT into their language. It was not easy but, now the Guajira have a Bible to read. To the glory of the Lord!
ReplyDeletePC - Bless God -How wonderful! My relatives have been with Wycliffe in South America since the 50's and were co-workers of the Elliot's. I remember as a child when the 5 missionaries were killed all the commotion around my grandparent's house surrounding that. Because of that I've had a heart for unreached people since we were first saved.
DeleteWe almost went with New Tribes after Bible college, but God had other plans for us.
I have an uncle who worked to translate scripture into local dialects when he was a missionary in Ethiopia and Kenya. I don't think he was with Wicliff but maybe worked some with them. We sure take scripture for granted since it's so accessible to us in the English speaking world.
