"Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend FAITHFULNESS.
DELIGHT yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:3-5
This week I've continued my studies on the Faithfulness of God and one aspect of His faithfulness towards believers regards His promise to answer our prayers. I think we're often too timid when we come to God in prayer and one of the reasons for that may be that some of us are nervous about erring on the side of the prosperity "Name It and Claim It" gospel. However, Christ has instructed us to boldly ask of Him even using strong language by repeating the word "Truly".
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name,
he will give it to you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name.
Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”
John 16:23-34.
"In My Name" is not intended to be a signature stamped onto the end or our prayers, but rather that we are to be praying according to His will and for His glory. When we are truly delighting in the Lord, we are seeking Him first and our desires will become transformed by God to be in accordance to His will. The more time we spend getting to know Him through His Word the more we will understand WHAT HIS WILL IS. And when we know what His will is we are then able to pray "in faith"! Isn't that exciting? There are many things in Scripture that are very clear which we can boldly ask for with great confidence. Some examples would be for our sanctification (I Thessalonians 4:3). For Wisdom (James 1:5). For our true needs (Philippians 4:2). And for our daily bread (Matthew 6:11).
And for all those "other" things that are not spelled out so clearly, such as seeking His will regarding things like which car to buy, what city to live in, etc, we can still pray with complete confidence regarding our decisions. When we are DELIGHTING in the Lord and living consecrated lives in obedience to Him we can freely make those choices trusting Him to bless us.
I love this little clip by John MacArthur on the explaination of Psalm 37:3-5. What a wonderful God we serve!
Have a blessed Lord's Day tomorrow.
All Glory To Him!
